A damp start to the New Year

If you live in Australia, you've probably heard about the Queensland floods. The area that's been affected is the size of New South Wales, or France and Germany combined!

Our little city has now been completely cut off by flood waters, the shelves in the supermarkets are empty, commercial flights have been shut down, the airport closed and a lot of the roads in the city are under water. The flood level isn't due to peak until Tuesday or Wednesday and is said to be at over 9 meters. It will be a few weeks before it dries up and the Bruce Highway opens again.Thankfully we are well out of the way of the flood waters, but a lot of residents aren't. I can't imagine the cleanup we'll be faced with afterward, and the mosquitoes will be horrendous!(The area under this little bridge is usually a dust bowl with a few weeds and grazing horses. It's now totally under water!)Please share a prayer for the people who have lost their homes and possessions under water, and those in Bunderburg and Emerald and surrounding townships that are now faced with an enormous amount of damage.

I sure am thinking of you all up there, while we have a lot of rain here in Brisbane it is nothing to what everyone up your way is going through.
Sending you special quilting hugs

This is dreadful and to have homes ruined like this must be heart breaking for those involved. Keep safe and I hope the waters start to receed soon.

I can't begin to fathom the size of the flood, I remember Emerald if flood about 2 years ago, poor families having to deal with it again.

So glad you're high and dry there! It's just so amazing watching the news everyday and hearing everything that's going on. We have family in Bundy (thankfully also high and dry where they are) and to see the water flowing there in places you know so well it's just bizarre!

Glad you are ok Manda! I have been wondering! It is just SO devastating! Mum and Dad are travelling back home, luckily for them, they took the boat to Melb instead of a flight back to Rocky!
Stay safe
