Oh - Aussie - Christmas Tree

42'c today. No way was I going to struggle with that big heavy pine tree.

So I resort to my backup aussie tree instead.

Much better suited for a Christmas in the sweltering heat wave we're having. Attach owls, Australian fauna baubles from Target and some newly thrifted ornaments.

 Add some other birds, some lights and a few more bits and pieces and it's done!

Time to sit back and enjoy...

the countdown begins

25 left until Christmas, where has the time gone?!? But of course you know what that means...?

Christmas decorations, Christmas lights, Christmas cooking, Christmas tutorials, Christmas crafting and lots of Christmas shopping (to keep out of the summer heat wave we're having already)!!! Yay!!

Here's my little Blue, he's so grown up now!

Just look at those pretty red feathers on his head. I think he might be crossed with an Eastern Rosella somehow...

He's starting to fly. Last night he flew right across the room to get to me. Time to cut his pretty little wing I think... Pity, but it has to be done to protect him.

He's eating seeds, fruit and vegetables now, but still has a bit of baby bird formula every now and again to "top up."

1. Fresh flowers. Oh how I love Spring!

2. My new owl bedspread which is light and soft and fluffy.

3. Finding pretty things while walking the dog.

4. Owl solar lights.

5. Making Christmas wreaths for my two best friends and having them received with happiness!

6. Playing with baby birds. These guys are Cockatiels.

7. Browsing Christmas decorations in the shops.

Tawny Frogmouth

I'm looking after a fledgling tawny frogmouth until he's strong and old enough to be released.

The people I got him from (who finally realized he needed proper care) had hand-raised him a for a few weeks after he had fallen from his nest, so he's quite social and affectionate.

Hopefully we can get him nice and strong and in a few months he'll be ready to take flight and make his own way in the world. Well, in the nature reserve next to our house anyway.

Blue is doing really well. In fact, he's thriving! More feathers are coming out and a lot more fluff has appeared. His throat and crop are still pink skin though.

He's eating like a little champion and since his eyes have opened fully has bonded with me. He's up and about most of the day now, sleeps right through the night and is finding his feet. He sits on me and grooms himself after every meal, as well as a good stretch of the wings, legs and neck.

Yep, he's fast becoming a very vocal and loved member of the family.
